On Saturday, December 21st, Premiere Boxing Champions presents live boxing action from the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, featuring a highly anticipated rematch between Tony Harrison and Jermell Charlo. This rematch will be for Harrison’s WBC super welterweight title.
The co-main event was originally supposed to take place between Guillermo Rigondeaux and Liborio Solis for a secondary title that was vacant. Unfortunately, that bout was cancelled this week due to Solis having issues with his VISA.
The heavyweight showdown between Efe Ajagba and Iago Kiladze will now serve as the co-main event. The Carlos Balderas vs Rene Tellez Giron lightweight contest has been moved up from the prelims to the three fight FOX telecast.
The prelims will take place at 6 PM ET on FS1, while the main card is set to begin at 8 PM ET on FOX. The main event for the FS1 PBC Fight Night portion of the broadcast will be a middleweight bout between Hugo Centeno Jr. and Juan Macias Montiel.
Websites for placing boxing bets have released odds for a few of the main card fights. Let’s step inside the ring, jab at the odds courtesy of 5Dimes, and hopefully knockout our predictions.

Carlos Balderas (9-0, 8 KOs) vs Rene Tellez Giron (13-1, 7 KOs)
- Carlos Balderas
- Rene Tellez Giron
As of now, there are no betting odds for this fight. However, since this bout is getting the spotlight from being moved from the prelims to the opening fight of the FOX TV broadcast, I expect boxing betting websites to list odds for this contest before fight night.
I also expect Balderas to be a sizable betting favorite over Giron. I don’t believe either fighter will offer betting value once the boxing odds are released.

This contest is scheduled for eight rounds and it features two of the younger fighters on the card. Mexico’s Rene Tellez Giron is just 20 years old while America’s Carlos Balderas is 23 years old.

Balderas is a highly touted prospect from the 2016 Olympic team. Although he lost in the quarterfinals of those Olympics, Balderas had a lot of buzz around him and is pegged to succeed as a pro. So far, he has lived up to those expectations.
Balderas had over 200 amateur fights. So, although he’s only fought nine pro bouts, he has a ton of in-ring experience. He also has a killer left hook to the body that has hammered opponents over the years.
Balderas has won five straight fights via TKO/KO and eight of his nine pro bouts. He last fought in July and pummeled Frankel until he scored a 7th round TKO victory.
Giron might be younger, but he has five more professional fights than his opponent this Saturday. He was undefeated with a 13-0 record before dropping the first bout of his career in June when he lost via unanimous decision to Michel Rivera. This will be his second fight in the United States.
Which Prospect Gets the Win on a Big Stage?
I have a hard time finding any path to victory for Giron in this contest. Yes, he’s a decent young fighter, but he’s going up against a better prospect and a bigger fighter.
Balderas has a five inch height and reach advantage. He also has the overall skills to really do some damage in this contest. Other prospects appear to have been moved up the rankings quicker than Balderas, but I expect Carlos to be fighting for titles within the next two years.
For this fight, go with Balderas to win via TKO before the 8th round.
Efe Ajagba (11-0, 9 KOs) vs Iago Kiladze (26-4-1, 18 KOs)
- Efe Ajagba (-3200)
- Iago Kiladze (+1600)
The undefeated Ajagba opened as a -5000 betting favorite, but has seen his odds come down with most online betting sites to a range of -2900 to -3700. William Hill still has him listed as a -5000 betting favorite. This is his 4th fight of 2019 and he’s been a massive favorite in all of them.
Kiladze opened as a +1200 underdog and has seen his odds go up since then. Iago can be found in a range from +1200 to +1850. This is Kiladze’s 5th fight in the last two years and he’s been a large underdog in all of them.
Neither man offers any betting value nor is Kiladze worthy of a flier.

Charlo Vs Harrison Full Fight
I’ve been riding the Efe Ajagba train ever since his fight against Curtis Harper in August 2018. If you recall, that’s the fight where Harper got into the ring, touched gloves, then promptly exited the ring after the bell rang and went back to the locker room. He lost via DQ just a few seconds into the bout.
However, words can’t do the experience any justice. Watch how it all unfolded in this clip below:
.@AjagbaEfe came ready for war, but #CurtisHarper said otherwise! ✌? #ImOut#AjagbeHarper#PBConFS1pic.twitter.com/YaJkKPhXK2

Harper walking away is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in the sport of boxing. With that said, it would probably be smart for Kiladze to literally follow in Harper’s footsteps.
Kiladze has dropped three of his last four fights and went to a split draw against Robert Alfonso in his most recent contest this past May. His last four fights have all been against rising heavyweight prospects like: Kownacki, Hunter, Joyce and Alfonso. Combined, those four men had a record of 42-1.
Furthermore, Kiladze is giving up three inches in height and six inches in reach to a more powerful fighter. I don’t like his chances in this contest.
Ajagba has won four of his last five fights via TKO/KO. However, his last bout which was in July went the distance where he defeated the unbeaten Demirezen via unanimous decision: 97-93, 99-91, and 99-91.
For this weekend’s fight, Ajagba is looking to get back to knocking out his opponents:
“I am very ready for this fight. I pulled out of my last bout because of a back injury and before then I defeated Demirezen through unanimous decision but this time, it will be a knockout out… He has not won in his last five four fights, I want to ensure I add another loss to his record.”
Will Ajagba Get His 10th Win via KO?
Theirs is nothing to suggest that Kiladze will hold up under the powerful shots from Ajagba. This Nigerian heavyweight is going to give Kiladze nightmares following their bout on Saturday.
I fully expect Ajagba to score a KO in this contest. All three of Kiladze’s losses in 2018 came via KO. He didn’t make it past the 6th round in any of those fights. I will be surprised if we see the 7th round in this bout.
Take Ajagba to win this fight. And, if you can find prop bets for Ajagba to win via TKO/KO then hop on that as well.
Tony Harrison (28-2, 21 KOs) vs Jermell Charlo (32-1, 16 KOs)
- Tony Harrison (+265)
- Jermell Charlo (-325)
In this heated rematch, Charlo is once again the betting favorite with odds ranging from -300 to -360. He opened as a -200 favorite and has seen his odds go up since then. Charlo was also the large favorite in their first matchup when he closed at -1565 odds.
Charlo Vs Harrison Rematch
Harrison opened as a +150 underdog for the rematch and has seen his odds go up to a range of +210 to +315. He closed as a +600 underdog in their first fight one year ago.
Charlo doesn’t offer any betting value, but Harrison does. He won the first fight and could definitely win the rematch. Plus, if you can get odds over +300 then you are tripling your wager if he wins.
Harrison vs Charlo Preview
Tony Harrison | Jermell Charlo | |
---|---|---|
Age | 29 | 29 |
Height | 6’1” | 5’11” |
Reach | 76.5” | 73” |
Total Fights | 30 | 33 |
Record | 28-2 | 32-1 |
Knockouts | 21 | 16 |
Originally the rematch was supposed to take place on June 23rd, but Harrison pulled out due to an ankle injury. Of course, that angered Charlo who accused Harrison of ducking him. Although it took a bit longer to make it happen, this rematch is going to be exciting.
Because there’s bad blood between each other, this weekend’s contest is going to be even more thrilling to watch. That bad blood started almost immediately after the first fight ended when Charlo felt he was robbed by the judges.
Many pundits and media outlets had Charlo winning the fight. However, the three judges felt differently as they scored it 115-113, 115-113, and 116-112 in favor of Harrison by unanimous decision. It was a tough loss for Charlo to accept considering he was 31-0 at the time.
Since then, Charlo has claimed that Harrison didn’t really win and that he’s going to destroy him on Saturday. Harrison continues to rub the victory in Charlo’s face as they’ve exchanged a war of words over the last year.
Will the Rematch Be Any Different?
It almost felt like Charlo didn’t take Harrison that serious in their first fight. There was an aura of dismissiveness coming from Charlo. This time around, it’s the exact opposite. He’s more focused and fired up then I have seen him in recent years:
“I don’t like ‘phony’ Harrison. It’s easy to explain why the rematch will be different. I’m knocking him out. I can’t let them judges make any decisions. That’s what I need. He’s going to sleep. Cold. He’s a fraud. He manipulated the system and he isn’t the real champ like I am. I’m the real champion and it will take me going in there and showing why I am the champ. I get to do that on December 21.”
'Phony Harrison is his name. You can't back up one word you say.'

For Harrison’s part, he continues to poke the bear by saying that he’s better than Charlo and that Jermell fears him:
“I will beat this man. I will beat this man at anything we do. I’m just a better athlete, and I know in my heart that I would never lose to a sucker, and he’s a sucker. ‘Oh, the referee didn’t like me.’ They ain’t got nothing to do with the scoring of a fight. I’m here now. He fears me, and he fears everything about me. I’m a threat to him.”
I’m getting fired up just reading those comments and watching the videos of the two fighters going face to face. When you add bad blood to the mix, it makes a fight very compelling.
Can Charlo Recapture His Title?
Last year, I thought Charlo should’ve won the fight. This weekend, I believe he will. Charlo is the more technically sound fighter of the two. He also has a more impressive resume with some big wins in his career. Harrison has a few losses to questionable talent.
Harrison will have the height and reach advantage, but I don’t see that coming into play this weekend. In all honesty, I believe this is going to be Charlo’s fight to lose. He was disrespectful and dismissive in their first fight and it cost him. He didn’t do enough to win convincingly.
This weekend, he will win via TKO/KO. Charlo is going to put on the pressure and push Harrison to his limits. From there, I think he will connect some shots that test Harrison’s chin early and often. Keep in mind, Harrison has lost two fights via TKO/KO.

We are going to see the best version of Charlo on Saturday night and I see him taking back his belt.
Final Thoughts on This PBC Boxing Card
Charlo Vs Harrison 2 Odds Today
With the cancellation of the Rigondeaux fight, this card took a massive hit in entertainment value and in-ring action. Although fighters like Efe Ajagba, Andre Dirrell and Carlos Balderas have some name recognition, the card lacks depth beyond the main event.
With that said, I expect this main event fight between Harrison and Charlo to be very exciting. These two men fought one year ago and Harrison pulled off a big upset victory over the previously unbeaten champ. Charlo will be out for revenge. The trash talking between these two has also added more fuel to the fire.
There’s not a lot of betting options available for this card. The main event is the most appealing of the available wagers due to Harrison being listed as the underdog.
